Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: How to Make the Most of a Spooktacular Night at Disney World 🎃👻
There is something extra magical about Walt Disney World in the fall. The pumpkins appear along Main Street, Mickey and Minnie trade their everyday outfits for Halloween costumes, the music gets a little spookier, and Magic Kingdom transforms into one giant Halloween celebration.
If you are visiting Disney World during the Halloween season, one of the experiences I highly recommend adding to your trip is Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. It is a separately ticketed event at Magic Kingdom, and it is packed with trick-or-treating, special entertainment, characters in Halloween costumes, spooky attractions, fireworks, a nighttime parade, and plenty of opportunities to dress up. In 2026, the party runs on select nights from August 7 through October 31, from 7:00 PM to midnight, with party guests able to enter Magic Kingdom as early as 4:00 PM.
The biggest piece of advice I can give you?
Don't try to do everything.
There is a LOT happening during the party, and trying to see every character, ride every attraction, collect every piece of candy, watch every show, and eat every Halloween snack can turn your magical evening into a very sweaty scavenger hunt. Pick the experiences that matter most to your family and build your night around those.
🎃 Start the Halloween Magic Before the Party
One of my favorite parts of a Disney Halloween night is making the entire day feel like an event.
I would start by having everyone choose their costumes ahead of time. This is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to participate. You don't have to spend a fortune, either. Matching family costumes can be adorable, but coordinated costumes can be just as fun.
Maybe Mom is Minnie Mouse, Dad is Mickey, and the kids are Donald, Goofy, and Pluto.
Or perhaps everyone chooses a different Disney villain. Here are a couple of me absolute favorites!
Maleficent: Tank I Skirt I Shoes I Backpack I Ears I Water Bottle I Pop Socket
Evil Queen: Tank I Shorts I Shoes I Backpack I Ears I Ring I Poison Bag I Heart Necklace I Villains Tumbler I Poison Apple Mug I Pop Socket
Or go completely off the rails with a family costume that has absolutely nothing to do with each other. Disney Halloween is a judgment-free costume zone.
And dressing up isn't just for the kids. Adults can dress up too! Disney has specific costume rules for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so make sure to check the current guidelines before finalizing your costumes.
My biggest costume tip: choose comfort over complicated.
You are going to be walking, riding attractions, trick-or-treating and spending hours in the Florida heat. A costume that looks fantastic in a photo but requires six layers, a giant wig and shoes designed by the Marquis de Suffering may not be your best choice.
Think lightweight, breathable and comfortable.
And comfortable shoes.
Always comfortable shoes.
🕓 Sample Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Itinerary
Because party guests can enter Magic Kingdom at 4:00 PM, you can get a nice head start before the official 7:00 PM party begins.
Here is an example of how I would structure the evening.
4:00-4:30 PM | Enter Magic Kingdom & Take Costume Photos
Enter the park and immediately get those costume photos!
This is when everyone is still relatively fresh, your costumes are still looking fabulous, and nobody has melted into a puddle of Florida humidity yet.
Take photos around the entrance, Main Street, U.S.A., and in front of Cinderella Castle. If you use Disney PhotoPass, there are also Halloween-themed Magic Shots and special photo opportunities during the party.
Family challenge: Have everyone pose in character for one photo.
The sillier, the better.
4:30-5:30 PM | Eat Dinner
I recommend eating an actual meal before the party gets into full swing.
You can make a dining reservation or grab something quick, depending on what works best for your family. Disney also offers Halloween-themed food and snacks during the party, so save room for those later.
Eating early also means you aren't spending prime Halloween-party time sitting down for dinner.
5:30-6:45 PM | Pick a Few Attractions
Use this time to ride a few attractions your family really wants to experience.
The party includes several attractions with special Halloween elements. In 2026, Space Mountain gets an extra-spooky treatment with darkness and spooky music, while Mad Tea Party receives special lighting effects. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor also becomes a trick-or-treat location.
For younger kids, this can be a great time to knock out a few favorite rides before the party entertainment gets underway.
For older kids and adults, this is your chance to head toward some of the attractions that are especially fun after dark.
7:00 PM | The Party Begins!
Now the official party begins!
Grab your trick-or-treat bags and start exploring.
One of the easiest ways to make trick-or-treating more engaging for kids is to turn it into a Halloween scavenger hunt.
Instead of simply collecting candy, give each child a mission:
Find three different trick-or-treat locations.
Find a character wearing a Halloween costume.
Spot a Disney villain.
Find a hidden Mickey.
Take a family photo with a pumpkin.
Find the spookiest decoration.
Ride an attraction with Halloween theming.
Find someone dressed as your favorite Disney character.
Suddenly, you're not just walking around collecting candy. You're on a Halloween adventure.
🍬 Don't Let the Candy Take Over
Disney makes trick-or-treating incredibly fun, but if you have kids, you already know where this can go.
One minute they're happily collecting candy.
The next minute they're carrying a bag that weighs approximately the same as a small toddler.
Set some expectations before you start.
We like the idea of letting kids collect their candy throughout the evening but saving the actual candy eating for later. You can even give each child a small bag and let them choose their favorite treats at the end of the night.
If anyone in your family has food allergies, Disney provides allergy-friendly options, including teal-colored treat bags and designated allergy-friendly locations.
🧙♀️ 8:00 PM | Find Your Spot for the Boo-To-You Parade
One of the highlights of the evening is Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.
In 2026, the parade is scheduled twice each party night, at 8:15 PM and 11:15 PM.
If you have younger children, I would strongly consider watching the earlier parade.
Yes, the later parade can mean fewer crowds in some areas, but there is something very satisfying about letting your kids experience the parade while they still have functioning batteries.
The parade includes Mickey and Minnie in Halloween costumes, Haunted Mansion-inspired characters and Disney villains.
Pro tip: Choose your parade location strategically and plan to stay there rather than trying to wander around looking for the perfect spot at the last minute.
This is also a great time for a family snack.
🔮 9:00 PM | Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular
Next, make your way toward the castle stage for the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular.
The Sanderson Sisters return for this Halloween party favorite, along with appearances from Disney villains including Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie and Maleficent.
This is especially fun for older kids, teenagers and adults who love Hocus Pocus.
And honestly, Disney Halloween is one of those rare occasions when the adults can get just as excited as the kids.
🎢 9:30-10:00 PM | Choose Your Adventure
Now is where I would let everyone pick.
Instead of saying, "We have to ride these five attractions," give each person a vote.
Maybe Dad wants to ride Space Mountain.
One child wants Haunted Mansion.
Another wants to go trick-or-treating.
Someone else desperately needs a Mickey-shaped Halloween snack.
Let everyone choose one thing that matters most to them.
That small change can make the evening feel much more collaborative and much less like Mom is running a military operation with a Disney app.
🎆 10:00 PM | Not-So-Spooky Spectacular
Find a good viewing location for Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, the Halloween fireworks spectacular.
This is a great moment to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere.
If your family loves fireworks, you can even make this a special tradition. Bring glow sticks, grab a themed snack and take a family photo before the show begins.
There is also a separately priced dessert party with reserved viewing available during the Halloween event for families who want to make the fireworks a bigger part of the evening.
🌙 10:30 PM-Midnight | The Final Push
After the fireworks, you have a decision to make.
Do you...
A. Keep riding attractions?
B. Go trick-or-treating?
C. Find more characters?
D. Shop for Halloween merchandise?
E. Go home before everyone turns into pumpkins?
There is no wrong answer.
For older kids and adults, this late-night stretch can be one of the best times to enjoy attractions and soak up the atmosphere. For younger kids, however, midnight may be an extremely theoretical concept.
If your little ones are fading, leave.
You don't get bonus Disney points for watching them fall asleep while standing in Tomorrowland.
👻 Make the Night Fun for Every Age
One of the best things about Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is that it can work for a wide range of ages.
For Younger Kids
Give them a Halloween mission.
Let them choose their costume.
Give them their own trick-or-treat bag.
Take lots of photos.
Let them pick one special Halloween snack.
And don't underestimate the magic of simply walking around and looking at everything. The atmosphere itself is part of the experience.
For Tweens and Teens
Let them have some control over the itinerary.
Have them choose attractions.
Give them a small Halloween photo challenge.
Let them search for characters.
Have them rate Halloween snacks.
Create a family costume challenge.
You could even make everyone choose their favorite attraction, snack, character and costume of the night.
For Adults
Don't forget that you are on vacation too!
Dress up.
Take the photos.
Try the themed food.
Enjoy the entertainment.
Ride the attractions.
Watch the fireworks.
And embrace the fact that you are walking around Magic Kingdom dressed like a Disney character at night.
That's kind of the point.
🎃 The Magic Is in the Costumes
If I had to choose one thing that makes Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party feel different from a regular Disney park day, it would be the costumes.
There is something wonderful about seeing families commit to a theme.
Maybe everyone dresses as characters from the same movie.
Maybe each person chooses their favorite Disney character.
Maybe you create your own version of the Disney villains.
Or maybe you simply wear Halloween-themed Disney shirts and Mickey ears.
You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on costumes to participate.
The goal isn't the perfect costume. The goal is becoming part of the story.
And Disney is one of the few places where an entire family can dress up together and nobody thinks twice about it.
🧡 My Biggest Tips for a Successful Halloween Party
1. Buy your party tickets early.
The Halloween party is a separate-ticket event, and Disney notes that tickets can sell out.
2. Enter at 4:00 PM if you can.
This gives you three hours in Magic Kingdom before the official 7:00 PM party begins.
3. Don't schedule every minute.
Leave room for spontaneous Disney magic.
4. Pick your priorities before you arrive.
Decide which parade, show, characters or attractions are absolute must-dos.
5. Wear comfortable costumes.
Cute is important. Comfortable is survival.
6. Wear comfortable shoes.
Your feet will thank you.
7. Bring a lightweight bag for candy.
Those little trick-or-treat bags fill up quickly.
8. Take costume photos early.
Everyone looks better before several hours of walking, humidity and candy.
9. Plan food strategically.
Eat a real meal early and use Halloween snacks as part of the adventure.
10. Let everyone choose something.
If each family member gets to pick one must-do activity, everyone feels invested.
11. Don't chase perfection.
You will not see everything. You aren't supposed to.
12. Know when to call it a night.
If the kids are exhausted, the magic has officially become bedtime.
🎃 Final Thoughts
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party isn't just another evening at Magic Kingdom. It is an opportunity to turn a Disney vacation into a full-blown family Halloween adventure.
Dress up. Trick-or-treat. Ride spooky attractions. Watch the parade. Dance. Eat something ridiculous. Take too many pictures. Let the kids stay up later than usual.
And most importantly, don't worry about doing it all.
Pick the experiences your family will remember.
Because years from now, your kids probably won't remember whether you managed to ride every attraction on the list.
They'll remember wearing their costumes through Magic Kingdom.
They'll remember seeing the castle lit up at night.
They'll remember the music, the fireworks and the parade.
They'll remember carrying a bag full of candy.
And they'll remember that for one night, your entire family stepped into the Halloween magic together.
That is the real Disney souvenir. 🎃✨
